A little golden badge isn't much of a gadget in the great scheme of things. It
doesn't get online. You can't text anybody with it. It doesn't come with so
much as a 1 megapixel camera. But the "Star Wars" Gold Heart Pin should serve
its particular function of benefiting needy children well enough.

The folks at Variety Children's Charities figured out how to encourage people
to donate to charity during the busy holidays. They'll sell a "Star Wars"
collectible to help kids. This time of year, it's common in movie theaters for
movie trailers to step aside for an onscreen PSA urging film lovers to donate
to Variety Children's Charity. Theater staff then sells the Children's Charity
pin, with the proceeds going to charity.

This year's Gold Heart Pin features C3P0 and R2-D2 and will retail for $3.
Variety hopes the galactic theme will increase donations during a winter movie
season in which "Star Wars" returns to theaters, with a 3D "Phantom Menace" en
route in February. [Read more]
