Guided Light Photography – Jules & Joey – Wedding Day Magazine – South Bend, Indiana
Jules and Joey met with me over Memorial Day weekend last year (wow, it really was last year wasn’t it?) about photographing their wedding. They were such a cute couple and I was so excited for the opportunity to find my way into their hearts. When Jules contacted Wedding Day Magazine about her desire to be featured in their magazine, they said they would need to see the images first. After hearing this, she knew that Guided Light Photography was going to be the photographers to help her do this. After she told me of her desire of being published, I was absolutely honored but terrfied that I might let her down.
When I walked into her room the day of her wedding, however, I just knew that her day was going to be nothing short of amazing. I was right. Her beauty and elegance were simply addictive and I couldn’t get enough of her. She’s one of those people that wraps you into their world and shows how beautiful life can really be.
Since Jules and Joey’s wedding, I have worked along side Michael Angelos and the Blue Heron in getting this gorgeous couple published. All that collaboration paid off. So, here it is:

This one isn’t even part of the feature, but Joey and his groomsmen won best dressed in black.

This is Blue Heron’s ad. I just about did a back flip when I saw this one. I wasn’t expecting this at all. I must say that Chris took all of these images. What a great early birthday gift to him (the big one is on Sunday-woot woot).
I cannot wait to go pick up a few from Bed Bath and Beyond, hurry and grab your copy now.

Wedding Photography | University Club MSU, Lansing Michigan
One of the biggest inspirations in my photography is the ever-so-fabulous Jasmine Star. I remember the first time my husband introduced me to her. He decided to use one of her images as the desktop wallpaper as inspiration for his personal work. I told him that he was crazy for doing that and you shouldn’t have other artist’s work as your wallpaper because when you go to work and photograph a wedding are you really giving your clients your work or something someone else inspired you to do. Two years later, I am just as guilty of changing my desktop images that inspire me for different reasons. I might like the angle, the exposure, the way the photographer used off camera lighting or something that might be lacking in my own work. Basically, it’s a constant reminder that I need to keep learning and growing. Jasmine Star is constantly at the top of my list of inspirational photographers.
At this moment it’s an evening shot of a band singing to the bride and groom. The way she lit the subject (the bride and groom) is just amazing. The white balance in the image is really all over the place because the stage clearly has pink lights, the tree is COVERED in Christmas tree (yellow) lights, but her subject has the perfect white balance.
In September I had the opportunity to meet and listen to her speak in Michigan. It was amazing. I felt like I did the first time I saw my first boy band concert when I was 13. You always want to make a good impression so you worry about what you’re going to wear, just in case you get to see each other face-to-face. You worry about what you might ask them and not have word vomit and look like a total loser (true story, I did that). When I got through the line, I had so many things I wanted to say to her, but looking at the line behind me I couldn’t ask her my questions, I froze. Instead, I just wanted to have my picture taken with her. I know, I know, I’m so lame. I was on cloud nine when she was excited about how the image came out and raved about my exposure after posting it on Facebook.
Here’s the image of us together.

When I left her seminar, I was so inspired by her words that my outlook on my business changed. I understood why I need to blog more; I’m such a blog slacker. I understood that I needed to find myself, figure out who I am, and accept who that person is. I started making radical decisions on what I wanted in everything that I did. What I wanted my images to look like, how I wanted my clients to see me, what colors I wanted for my logo and website. I wanted ME to be all over MY work.
I will end with this. If there is one thing that penetrated my heart that night, it’s this: shoot everything as if you were going to have it published. That is a HUGE confidence builder (and a lot of pressure, bring it on), but it really does change your perception of what you are photographing.

Niles Wedding Photography | Hillary & Evan (sneak peak)
This past weekend’s wedding was the perfect ending to an amazing wedding season . They had an AMAZING day as the rain decided it wasn’t going to come down on Hillary’s parade. It ended up being a beautiful, cool, fall day. Hillary’s transformation from Salon Nouveau was breath taking. Literally, I had to bask in her glow for a minute or two. Then, there was Evan who was quite smashing in his tuxedo. They were surrounded by the best bridesmaids and groomsmen I could ever imagine but fit Hillary and Evan perfectly, I was in stitches laughing about 95% of the day.

I loved her dress, it just added to her exquisite look.

And her shoes!! This was a Chris inspired image. Literally.

What did I say, doesn’t she look divine?

Evan looked smashing. This smile/laugh never left his face the entire day.

These kids were so well behaved, I couldn’t resist.

Their first KISS. Love it!

They are so amazing together.

I love this shot Chris took of Hillary’s neice walking with her grandma and grandpa.

Gotta love the bubbles.

The added touch of the limo.

I can’t help myself. I smile at these everytime I look at them.

Evan, you crack-a-me-up.

When it came down to business, we got a lot of the “Get a room” from the fisherman behind them. Gotta love the spectators.

They were such a wild bunch. I could shot them for hours.

Look at this beautiful cake. It went SO well with her Tiffany Blue theme.

Her step dad sang to them.

And mom played beautifully.

Love you Hillary!

Just some of the amazing work from Meery Me Events.
